Thank you to everyone who came out to our Mural Launch Ribbon-Cutting on Friday and our Community Canvas Block Party on Saturday! We’ve been an official 501c3 nonprofit for five years this month, and we are beyond thankful for the support and love we’ve received from the community. Poverty and the Arts started as a dream to bring community members together. It started as a way to connect Nashville’s rich with Nashville’s poor, and as space of creativity for some of Nashville’s most vulnerable.
Five years later, we’ve paid out over $25,000 to artists impacted by homelessness and have served a growing 50+ clients. However, beyond our outputs, we realize we’ve built a growing community and family—one where we hear comments like “I never had friends until I came here”, and “I never felt like people understood me until I joined POVA”, and “People accept me for who I am here”.
We are so honored to cultivate this growing community where we’re inspired everyday by the lives, strength, and perseverance of our artists.
Which is why we’d like to invite you to take part in it! Maybe you have time and can volunteer. Maybe you have disposable income and can donate or buy art. Maybe you have an expertise and can serve on our board or committee—whatever your gifts, we’d love your help to grow our Artist Collective and impact! Please reach out to us if you’d like to be involved!❤️ Thank you!
